The camera zooms in on Zelda tossing and turning in bed
There is a dark cloud floating above Hyrule the people are in ore but then suddenly there’s a ball of light out of it appears a figure in green cloths holding the forest stone guarded by the great tree of Kokiri I awoke suddenly, I saw the light pouring through the window and I heard voices so I quickly dressed a made my way to the throne room. When I had got there I saw my father talking to a stranger dressed in a dark outfit he stared evilly deep into my eyes as I walked past but I just stared strongly back into his eyes and keep on walking. I had known as soon as I saw him that this was the man whom represented the dark cloud in my dream. I didn’t trust him so I decided to spy on him through the window of the courtyard but as soon as I had got to the window I heard footsteps behind me so I was about to greet Impa but then I saw that it wasn’t her… he looked like the figure of my dream. I greeted him then I made sure he had the stone of the forest and then explained to him my dream and that the guy talking to my father represented what was destined to happen to Hyrule so I told him the legend of the triforce guarded by the sages and about the master sword that is sealed behind the door of time and to access it you need the 3 spiritual stones. He agreed to help me so I gave him a letter granting him access to the home of the Gorons and I told him to see Impa who showed him where to go next and taught him the sacred lullaby as I had requested. I looked back through the window feeling confident the Link would complete his task the man had gone so I quickly returned inside to talk to my father. “What did that man want”? I said, “he was trying to talk me into making him the heir to the throne” he said “but you didn’t agree did you” I said shakily “you should have more faith in me” he exclaimed I kissed his forehead gratified and made my way to the door “wait a minute” he said softly “I have something for you. I was going to wait until you were older but I fear I am getting to old to look after Hyrule because I to can sense the great danger threatening Hyrule” I turned around and walked towards him, he looked up at me with great sorrow in his eyes and he carried on “I’m now relying on you to protect Hyrule” he took the Ocarina Of Time out of his pocket and passed it to me and said “are you willing to bear the responsibility of protecting Hyrule for I Know you will do a better job than me” I took the ocarina out of his hand and whispered “that’s impossible”.
*
Later that night I talked to Impa as we sat on the bank watching the market she said “we had better warn King Darunia of the Gorons and king Zora in the morning” she said thoughtfully “I’ll talk to Darunia and you talk to King Zora for it is quiker that way” I nodded slowly deep in thought but it was shortly interrupted “when she said “I better prepare you for your journey in the mourning”
*
The next mourning I showed her the ocarina, she jolted backwards surprised and I explained to her what my dad had said. “This gives you great power you wont need much more protection apart from this” she said and she handed me a long katana made completely of diamond and a tiara which shone with the light of the moon, it had nine holes in it the middle one being slightly larger. Then she handed me a gem and I said a weak “thank you” but I had a surprised and confused expression on my face and she had obviously noticed because she said staring into the sky “your mother asked me to give this legendary tiara and katana to you when I thought you were ready before she passed away” then she looked me in the eyes and said “I too agree with your father, you are ready to watch over this great land” I smiled and nodded gratefully at her. I looked at the gem, it had a picture of Hyrule castle on it she told me to put it in the larger hole in the middle of the tiara and as I did it sparkled so I put it on. Impa said “now shout ‘protection’”… “PROTECTION” I screamed and I felt a strong wind against me and then the tiara rose above my head and a mystical blue light started to shine around me “you are now protected she whispered stunned. “You can gain more mystic gems from the elemental guardians but whenever you activated a gem it drains magic power which you can renew using green potion… I sense great power in you… now shout ‘return protection’” and as I did the tiara sucked up the blue light and the wind had stopped and the tiara landed neatly back on my head “use this new power if you are threatened on your journey… “Your quest begins now” she said strongly “I know you can do it” and after that she threw something on the ground and disappeared, I just stood there bewildered.
After I had come to grips about what had happened I went to visit Malon at Lon Lon ranch I warned her of the evil I foresaw and she happily aided me on my quest by lending me a pure white horse which I rode to the river leading to Zora’s domain but when I arrived I found out it was not the peaceful sanctuary it had been before. It had already cursed by Ganonndorf’s evil touch, “This will be harder than I thought” I said out loud.
This is the first challenge (like Link’s dungeon’s/temples)
Zelda has to face: Zora’s river
I walked through the two pillars and stared in horror at the evil this once peaceful place now contained. I quickly screamed “PROTECTION” as a rock like object came speeding towards my face, I looked around to see where it had come from then I noticed a squid like animal piecing me with his searing yellow eyes. I saw a figure shaking in the middle of a circle of stones so I quickly ran there and screamed “RETURN PROTECTION” because the thing had dived back underwater and then I asked him if he was alright. He told me how a man in black rode through here laughing, and as he did a black energy formed around him and this place became cursed and that nobody came through here anymore so he couldn’t sell his magic beans so I reassured him by saying “don’t worry, I will rid this place of its evil”. He looked up at my face and as he did he stared in ore and said just as shakily as when I first met him “was that the tiara passed down by the royal family” he said stammering slightly, “yes” I replied wondering how he new about it “I thought it was just a legend… your highness but my father asked me to give this shiny bean to the one wearing the legendary tiara and he also asked me to check and see if she was a member of the royal family and wasn’t associated with the man wearing black, do you have ant proof… your highness”. I played him the lullaby Impa used to play to me on my new ocarina. He bowed and handed me the shiny bean but to my surprise it wasn’t a bean at all… it was another magical gem this time with an inscription of a bean on it. I placed it in my tiara and he said with a bit more confidence this time “to activate the gem shout ‘sprout’ your highness and an incredibly high bean stalk will appear and automatically grow wherever you use it, it can be used to access high places but it drains magical power while its living so shout ‘return sprout’ to make it disappear but you can only have one active at a time your highness” I smiled and said “thank you, don’t worry I will return this place to its former glory” he smiled and nodded weakly and I continued on my quest.
The river is slightly more extended than the one in ‘The legend Of Zeldatm The Ocarina Of Time’ but still the same idea. The river is sectioned off with different coloured light barriers which to shatter you need to complete the challenge in that section; this will allow you to access the next section.
Boss: ‘Zicova’- He is a water dragon which Zelda fights at the waterfall which leads into Zora’s domain on those long, thin, intertwining paths, it swims it the water underneath and leaps out to attack (this is when Zelda has her chance to attack Zicova with her crystal katana). When it does it also has the power to shoot spikes from its back and it also has the power to shoot energy beams from it mouth and when you kill it, it turns into water.
After the boss is defeated the river becomes peaceful again and only a few creatures that have been influenced by evil remain and the magic bean salesman sits happily near the fence eating his beans then Zelda plays the lullaby Impa used to play to her which parts the waterfall and allows her to enter Zora’s Domain.
I walked over to the stone engraved with the triforce and like Impa had told me to when she used to play the lullaby to me, I went and stood on the stone and played it and the waterfall parted and I entered Zora’a Domain. I was stunned by the beauty of it and I had been desperate to see it ever since Impa told me tales of it as a child. After I had taken it all in I spoke to King Zora and he made sure the domain was sufficiently guarded and he thanked me for the warning, he also told me to talk to his daughter princess Ruto on the way out. I listened to his advice and went to see her. We became deep in discussion after a short period of time for we could relate to each other because we were both going through the same hardships of being princesses. We hadn’t been talking long but she suddenly challenged me to a swimming competition which I happily accepted. Another Zora hid the silver rupee and the challenge was to get it before Ruto, I had only just won after a few attempts. “Fine you win” she sulked “you were a worthy opponent, please take this I don’t need it anyway.” She passed me a new gem for my tiara this time with a picture of a few bubbles on it and she said calmly “if you shout ‘oxygen’ you will be able to breath underwater but it drains magic power so shout ‘return oxygen’ to deactivate it.” I thanked and promised her I would come a visit her soon and she walked away to go and talked her friend which she called ‘Jaba jabu’ or something strange like that and I left the crystal paradise and made my way back to Hyrule castle woundering if Impa had successfully warned King Darunia and the Gorons of the danger that may befall them.
Once I had reached the drawbridge I saw Impa standing there smiling but as I drew closer she pulled something out of her pocket and held it between her two middle fingers. I quickened my pace for I was eager to see what it was… it was another magical gem this time with an inscription of a boulder on it, I knelt down and she placed it into my tiara. “Shout boulder to activate it” Impa said smiling…”Boulder” I screamed and stood there eagerly waiting for something to happen but nothing did, then she said trying not to laugh “try doing a forward roll” I was confused but I obeyed. I tried doing one but it happened a lot faster than normal and I couldn’t stop but I didn’t feel dizzy and I could control were I went with ease. Impa was in hysterics “return boulder” I screamed then I stood up and said “I guess you spoke To King Darunia then” trying to pull a serious face but it didn’t last long and we both stood there in hysterics.
The next mourning Impa hurriedly woke me up and showed me a letter that had been sent by Malon, it asked me to get to Lon Lon Ranch as quickly as I could because she wanted to talk to me. So I got dressed and we rode to Lon Lon ranch. As soon as I had arrived I knew something was wrong the whole place seemed strangely quiet and still, even the animals. Malon showed me down to the basement of the barn, all seemed normal until I noticed a hole under the stairs. The Strange thing was that it wasn’t black like normal holes instead it was multicoloured and the colours seemed to move where they liked and there was also a weary black smoke leaking out of it. “It opened here the other day” she exclaimed “and nothing here has been the same since, is there anything you can do princess?” she said worriedly. “Ill find out what’s causing it and put a stop to it” I said confidently. “Are you sure that’s wise princess” Impa said questionably. “Yes” I said just as confidently as before and at that I jumped down the hole and as soon as my head fell under I became unconscious…
I awoke at what seemed like hours later but I was amazed by the beauty of the place, there were giant mushrooms growing all over the place and the sky was a deep shade of orange, it is also sectioned off with light barriers like before.
Zelda has to face: Mushroom Forest
Mushroom Forest: This is a really big and complex maze, there are two layers the floor and on top of the mushrooms but this is hard to get around (because the beanstalks don’t reach to the top of the mushrooms) but you can find:
Angel wings: These serve as Zelda’s version of Link’s hover boots, they have limited fly capabilities. You can’t fly as high as the top of the beanstalks but these can be used to get past long gaps. The wings are activated by a small red button in the middle of a crystal broach Zelda attaches to her dress. Using it doesn’t drain magical power but it only last for 5 seconds (5 wing flaps). Zelda can still use her crystal katana whilst in flight. This new power allows Zelda to access the boss by flying over the large gaps in the top layer once she has first of all accessed it for that’s were it lives.
Boss: ‘Yako’ – he is an evil black bird which is beautiful but deadly and spends a lot more time in the air than on the floor. He is coloured shadow black apart from an electric blue bleak and a few bright red feathers mingled in with the black ones in his tail and wings (they look like red highlights). It is only venerable in the air it is impossible to attack on the ground so you have to use the angel wings and slash it with your katana when it is in flight. It can drop egg bombs but is main power is fire. As it glides through the air it leaves a trail of flame behind it making it harder to hit, it sometimes turns around to shoot fireballs and steel knife feathers; this becomes more rapid as it weakens. On the ground it sets it whole body on fire and tries to chase you and smother you in flames but it isn’t very fast on the ground. When you destroy it burns away and turns into ashes and the portal reappears which can be used to return to Lon Lon Ranch.
I awoke sharply in Malon’s bedroom, everyone was standing around me. “You were unconscious” she murmured softly but concerned, “so I bought you back here, are you o.k.?” I attempted a weak “yes.” “You need to rest” Malon said and the others all nodded in agreement “we will talk in the mourning if you feel…” but I didn’t hear the rest of it because I was too exhausted and had fallen asleep.
I awoke late the next mourning. I stared mindlessly at the ceiling lost in thought for a few minuets until I heard a sleepy “are you awake yet princess?” It had come from Malon who had fallen asleep on the floor by the side of me. “I finally have the chance to thank you; you have saved me, my family, the farm and the life it contains. Thank you I am eternally grateful” she seemed to be wide awake now. “I am your princess, the protector of this land it was my duty to protect you, besides I was only to happy to help you” I replied smiling. “Well I want you to have this” she said also smiling, “my favourite pet chicken – Cluckoo, its rumoured that it has strange powers, it always has been different” and at that she handed me a shadow black chicken with an electric blue beak and red streaks down its wings and tail… I jumped back in surprise. “It’s been missing for a few days but I found him this mourning wondering around the barn” she said still smiling softly. “Um… it will probably be better if you keep it” I said not sure of what to do “but take special care of it” I said stammering slightly. “Well at least take this then” she said sounding puzzled and she handed me a bottle of Lon Lon milk and said “some people say it has the power to heal” I was confused but I nodded politely. “You know you are welcome here anytime” she said humbly and at that I rode back to the castle with Talon and Malon waving heartily.
When I had entered the castle grounds I didn’t see Impa sitting on the bank watching over Hyrule market like she normally was but instead she was talking with my father. They both ran toward me as I burst through the doors, they both looked upset, I stood there being bombarded with questions but I wasn’t really listening. A few hours later Impa took me to a room of the castle I didn’t even know existed. “Why are we going up here” I said inquisitively but she didn’t answer. She slowly unlocked the door and in it stood a stand and she asked me to lay my hands on it… I jumped back in surprise as a beam of light shot up from the base I was pushed back by the force but got up slowly after. As it slowly disappeared it revealed a harp which sparkled, she handed it to me and said “great danger and sorrow is coming our way soon you will need this, I sealed it away so the one of pure evil couldn’t get hold of it. I sealed it away so the one of pure evil couldn’t get hold of it. I know our destinies are not the same and to fulfil them we will need to go our separate ways soon so if you need to contact me then just play this song”(called Impa’s song). She started to play something on her fist and I copied it on my harp which strangely I already knew how to play and I after I had played it the harp mysteriously sparkled. “Also remember the lullaby I taught you, its proof that you’re a member of the royal family”. I stood there staring at the harp slightly dumbfounded as she left the room.
*
SMASH… a load noise had suddenly woken me up. It sounded like it was coming from the throne room… “FATHER” I shouted as I instantly grabbed my katana and started to run as fast as I could towards the source of the noise. I knew something wasn’t right, I could sense an evil presence… “Gannondorf” I whispered, somehow I knew it was defiantly him. I burst through the double doors of the throne room, he had my father who was weak in old age grasped in one hand and this time he wasn’t being as polite. “Where is the crown” Gannondorf said softly but angrily. “I’ll never tell you” he said strongly knowing this was the end for him. Gannondorf held up his sword. “FATHER” I screamed and I threw myself between him and Gannondorf’s sword even though I knew I had forgotten my tiara in a rush to get there, “you’ll have to get through me first” I said attempting to sound strong but I knew it was obvious I was scared. He swung it full pelt towards us I closed my eyes. “Ahhhh” there was blood everywhere… but not from me, he must have pushed me out of the way at the last second. “FATHER” I screamed but there was no answer. The tears streaming down my face made everything blurry. Impa burst through the doors and just stood there for a while once she had seen him. Gannondorf started laughing. I got up, wiped the tears from my face and said “you shall pay for what you’ve done; I swear I’ll never let you get the triforce”, all I wanted was revenge so I drew my katana and started walking towards him. “Princess, take this” Impa said as she through me my tiara, “Protection” I screamed as I carried on walking towards him.
Boss: Gannondorf – the one boss you cannot defeat, although you can get close he is to powerful at this stage. Destroy pots to regain magical power and health.
The sword was about an inch away from my head, my life flashed before me as everything started moving in slow motion… swoosh it went as it hit the ground about an centimetre from my ear, where my head had just been as Impa flung me out of the way and then quickly helped me up and we dashed towards the stables. I was trying to escape her grasp the whole time; I wanted to finish what I had started even though I could stop the tears running down the sides of my cheeks as she put me on Hyaku my pure white horse. He was shaking; he must have known something wasn’t right. “Hy-ah” Impa shouted as she whipped the reigns forward and we headed towards Lon lon ranch. I could hear the faint screams of dying guards. Even though everything was blurry I saw Gannondorf behind me laughing wildly as he mounted his shadow black horse. He slowly went out of sight as we crossed the drawbridge. I saw a green blur by the side of it and I knew it was Link and I could sense the presence of the three spiritual stones so I threw him the ocarina that I had blessed with my spirit so he could break the seal. I was overwhelmed with so many emotions, the main one being hatred, that I fainted.
*
“Are you o.k?” Malon said as I started to come around but I couldn’t answer. “Princess, I know what you’re going through” she said softly “When I was younger, I had an older sister but she sacrificed herself to save the ranch from evil and now she’s on a different ranch in the land of masks, where there is talk of time manipulation, and all I want is to get her back even though I know its impossible” her words comforted me slightly. “I’ll go and tell Impa you’re awake, and remember time heals everything that needs healing”, she smiled gently and left the room.
“We have to leave now” Impa said hurriedly as she burst through the door, “If we stay here any longer he will find us, I know it hurts but we don’t have any choice”. Then she grabbed my hand and we quickly left.
We were just mounting Hyaku when Malon came running our way, I didn’t have much energy but she placed a piece of paper in my hand with notes on and said “use this to call Hyaku when you need him, good luck princess” and She ran back into the house. “Hy-ya” she shouted as she whipped the reigns. I fell asleep almost straight away.
“Ha ha ha ha “Gannondorf chanted. “Ah”, I gasped as I sharply woke up. I had just replayed the whole ugly thing in my head. My mind quickly focused on where I was. It was pitch black, I looked out the window, I could just make out a figure walking away in the distance. “That’s strange” I whispered to myself, “why would somebody be up at this time”? I heard deep breathing beside me and I knew Impa wouldn’t sleep if there was any danger around and with that thought in my mind I fell back to sleep.
*
“Princess…princess, wake up” I heard a soft voice beside me say as I was being gently nudged. As my eyes began to focus I saw that it wasn’t Impa, it was a girl with long green hair, a blue hair band and a green dress, and she dressed like a Kokiri… “Hi my names Saria, it’s an honour to meet you” she said chirpily, “I’m sorry to wake you but I have to go deep into the lost woods soon. Your friend brought you here last night and explained to me what has happened, she had to go but she left you a note on the side, and now you’re here with me in Kokiri forest, I noticed your tiara last night and if you have the sacred tiara this means that you are the guardian of the elemental stones aren’t you? I had heard the rumour that a great fairy was guarding one somewhere in the palace but now Gannondorf has taken it over she couldn’t live there anymore so she has sealed it away somewhere deep within the palace, it may be wise to go there soon before Gannondorf finds it”. I was too busy thinking about Impa to care about the stone… she must have been the figure I saw leaving last night… “And princess” she carried on “you are welcome to stay here for as long as you like, I am honoured by your company, besides it should be safe here, I really must be going now, I’ll be back quite soon, goodbye”. I walked over to the window picking up the note feeling completely alone, it said:
Princess
I am sorry to leave you like this but I’m bound to other duties, I must protect my people but remember my purpose is still to guard you, I know you will be safe with Saria as long as you make sure you wear the disguise. Make sure the turbine is covering you tiara and that Saria is the only one that knows your true identity, it is vital that you don’t let anyone find out the truth. Remember the boy in green can’t do it alone; you are Hyrule’s only hope while the boy in green is trapped in the chamber of time. For seven years you must do you best to save Hyrule from switching alliance and most importantly to stop Gannondorf from getting his hands on the triforce. You are strong enough to do this now, it is your destiny to help the boy in green save this great land, you are princess Zelda you have you mother’s wisdom running through you veins and you father’s knowledge and the protection of the spiritual stones never forget this. I know you can do it and if you get confused you can always talk to me using the harp, I promise we will meet again.
Impa
Tears started slowly trickling down my face; she had hardly ever left my side since I was born, and now she could have left for good, I had never felt so alone but I knew I still have to fulfil my destiny.
